GATE Exam 2013 : Notification and Registration


GATE 2013 Notification is out in the 2nd week of August, 2012 and the Exam dates had been announced.In GATE Exam 2013 , a number of changes have been introduced Like the one of the conducting the Online exam for 15 Papers and Offline Exam for 6 Papers.Likewise both the Online as well as Offline GATE Exam will be conducted on two different dates. The Online GATE Exam 2013 is scheduled on 20th January, 2012, where as Offline GATE Exam will be held on 10th Feb, 2013.

Another important aspect of GATE Exam 2013 is that Female Candiadtes will enjoy Full Fee Exemption, ie Female Candiadtes will not have to spend a single penny for appearing the GATE 2013 .In this post we will discuss in Detail about Notification, Registration and the Changes that are made in the GATE 2013 Exam.

GATE 2013 Notification


The Notification for the GATE-2013 Exam is published online of the Official Website of GATE Exam conducting Authority.It is worth mentioning here that Graduate Aptitude Test in Enginnering-2012 is being conducted jointly by Indian Institute of Science and Seven IIT's.Passed students in the GATE-2013 Exam will be issued scorecards based on which they can apply for ME/ M Tech/ P Hd courses in different Institutes of the country.

The score card of GATE -2013 Exam will be valid for a period of 2 years.

Important Dates for GATE-2013 Exam


Starting Date for Submitting the Gate Online Application form: 1st Sept, 2012
Last Date for Submitting the Gate Online Application form:  30th Sept, 2012

Last Date for Receiving the Application form at Zonal GATE Office: 8th Oct, 2012

GATE-2013 Admit cards can be downloaded after : 5th Dec, 2012

Date for GATE-2013 Online Exam: 20th Jan, 2013

Date for GATE-2013 Offline Exam: 10th Feb, 2013

Declaration of GATE-2013 Exam Result : 15th March, 2015

Whtat's NEW in GATE 2013 Exam ?


Online Exam: In GATE-2013, there will be an Online exam (Computer Based) for 15 Papers. The Paper Codes are as: AE, AG, AR, BT, CE, CH, CY, GG, MA, MN, MT, PH, TF, XE, and XL.

Online Registration Only: For 2013 GATE Exam, the registration will be done only online through Online Form Submission. Online Application submission will start from 1st Sept, 2012.

Only Downloadable Admit Card: Admit Card for GATE -2013 Exam, will not be send by Postal Services (By Mail) anymore. Candiadtes will now have to Download the Admit cards from the respective zonal Websites after 5th Dec, 2012

Exemption in Applications Fees : Female Candidates are exempted from Paying Application fee for GATE-2013 Exam.So, we can expect the Higher Female Registrations for GATE-2013 Exam.

Using Only Blank Ink : Applicants who are going to appear in the GATE 2013 Offline Exam are required to use only Black Ball Point Pen only for filling ovals in the Answer sheet.

Who can apply ? : In GATE-2013 Exam , Pre-final year appearing students cannot apply.You can read more on GATE-2013 Eligibility here

New Formula: A new formula has been devised by the conducting Authority for Calculating the GATE-2013 Score.

Scanned Photo and Signature: Before applying Online for GATE 2013 Exam, candidates must have the Scanned Photograph and Scanned Signature with them

GATE 2013 Online Application


GATE 2013 Exam Dates have been announced and the Online Registration for the GATE 2013 Exam will start from 1st Sept, 2012 and the Last date to Submit the GATE 2013 Application form is 30th September, 2012. 

For GATE 2013 Exam, only online applications will be submitted and no other means of application will be accepted. In previous GATE Exams there is an option between Online and Offline form, but in 2013, the Online registration is the only valid method to apply for GATE-2013 exam.

Pre-Requistes for Submitting the GATE-2013 Application form Online ?


Before you apply Online, you must ensure that you full fill the Eligibility Criteria mentioned in the GATE-2013 Broucher. Here is the important Information (Documents/Details) that you need before applying for GATE Exam.
  • Scanned Photo and Scanned Signatures.
  • Personal Information, Eligibility Details.
  • Scanned (*.pdf) files of supporting documents (Optional).
Remember: The starting date for Submitting the GATE Online Application form is 1st Sept, 2012 and Last Date is 30th Sept, 2012 .

 Understating the GATE-2013 Online Application Interface


GATE Online Interface is a new thing in the GATE-2013 Exam. This online interface will act as an Interaction medium between you and the GATE Office. The Interface requires Registration  and can be accessed Online through your chosen Username (Email address)  and Password .

GATE-2013 Online Interface can be accessed at this URL :  http://gateapp.iitb.ac.in/ (will be Activated from 1st Sept, 2012)

The Online Interface will have the following facilities:

Online Registration : Services Like Filling the GATE 2013 Online Application submission, Uploading Docs (Scanned Photo, Sign and Certificates), Payment of Application fees (Online Only).

Application Status : After you submit the GATE-2013 Online application form, you can check the status of your Application form through this interface.

Grievance Redressal: In case of any Queries/Questions, you can use this interface to contact GATE Office and resolve your Queries.

Download Admit Cards: The Admit cards can be downloaded by logging in your Interface. The Date for Downloading the GATE-2013 Admit card in 5th Dec, 2012.

Check Results and View Scores: After the Declaration of GATE-2013 Result, you can check your scores Online .

How to Submit GATE-2013 Application form Online ?


As we mentioned above, that to apply for GATE-2013 Exam , one must apply Online and submit the GATE-2013 Application form.Since most of the students applying for GATE-2013 Exam are freshers and are not aware of the procedure for filling the GATE-2013 form Online, so in this article, we will discuss in detail the complete procedure for Submitting the GATE-2013 Application form Online.

GATE-2013 Registration (Online Application) is a three step Procedure.The steps are given below:
  1. Filling the GATE-2013 Online Application form.
  2. Payment of Application Fees (Online and Offline)
  3. Mailing documents to GATE Office (Through Speed Post).
Now,one by one, we will go on to discuss all these Important Steps required to Apply Online and submitting the GATE 2013 Online Application form.

(I) Filling the GATE-2013 Application form Online


  1. You can fill the GATE Online Application form by Logging on to the GATE Online Application Interface @ www.gate.iitb.ac.in/gate2013/.
  2. After that you have to Register by providing you valid Email address.Remember that Email address will be used by the GATE for sending the updates and alerts about the exam.Upon registration, a conformation link and the Password will be sent to the email address.The Conformation Link must be clicked and the Password will be entered.After First Login, you are required to change the Password.
  3. After Email Registration, you will have to fill the GATE Online Application form .Filling the Application form Required Personal Information, Correspondence Address Details, Scanned Docs, Qualifying Exam Details etc.
  4. After that you have fill the Online form and Upload the Documents by following the On-screen Instructions.
  5. In the Application form, there is a choice between Online Payment of Application fees (through Net Banking) and Offline Payment of Application fees (Through Challan form).You have to choose the one, depending upon your Convenience
  6. After you select the Payment Option or Make the Payment through Online Mode Or Offline mode, you will see a link " Print Application form".It is a (*pdf) files with 4 page that must be printed as it required to be mailed to the GATE Office.

(II) Payment of Application fees


An application fees amounting to Rs 1200 (For Male Gen/OBC) candidates and Rs 600 (For Male SC/ST/PWD) candiadtes will have to be paid either through Online mode or Offline mode.

Note: Female Candidates will enjoy the fee exemption, as notified by MHRD, Govt of India.

Online Payment of Application fees: You can use your Net Banking Facility for Payment of GATE Application fees.The Payment Gateway in integrated with the Online application form.In the application form, when you choose the Online Mode of Payment, you will be redirected to your Bank's Website, where you can make the Payment.After making the Payment, you will be redirected to GATE Online Application Interface, where you can Print the System Generated Application form

Note: The Bank will charge Rs 10 as Service Charges for using Net Banking Facility.

Offline Payment of Application fees:If you have chosen the Offline Payment Option in the Online form, you will be provide with a Challan form that contains your Filled in Details.The Challan form will have three Copies (One for Bank, One for Candidates and One to be mailed to GATE Office) The Application fees can be paid by using this Challan form at the branches of SBI and Canara Bank.

Note: The Bank will charges Rs 25 (SBI) and Rs 20 (Canara) as service charges

(III) Mailing documents to GATE Office (Through Speed Post).

 Now, you have filled the GATE Application form Online and Make the Payment. In the Next step, you have to Mail the System Generated GATE Application form to the GATE Office through Speed post.The address of the zonal Office will be printed in the Address slip that that generated along with Application form (*;pdf) File.

Here is the checklist before Mailing the GATE Application form:

  1. Signed Application form with photograph pasted on it.
  2. Documents supporting eligibility of the candidate (Degree Certificate). In case the (*.pdf) files of same were not uploaded.
  3. Copy of challan form ( Application fee slip).Not required for those making Payment through Online mode.
  4. Relevant Category Certificate (If not uploaded Online)
The Last Date for Receipt of Applications  at the respective GATE Office is Monday (8th of Oct, 2012).
